In 2016 Cyprus was visited by 148 739 Israeli tourists – 51% more than in 2015 and 277% more than in 2012. Thus, Cyprus became the absolute number one amongst the tourists from Israel.
This is despite the fact that in general; from 2012 to 2016 tourist flow to Cyprus grew by 30%.
Today, Israel is the fourth biggest tourist market in Cyprus – after Great Britain (1.157 million tourists per year), Russia (782,000) and Greece (162,000).
One of the reasons of the increase in the tourism sector was the implementation of the "Open Skies" program which led to lower prices on flights.
