The Cyprus Wine Festival, which takes place every year in the city of Limassol, the second largest urban area in Cyprus, will open its gates on Thursday, 25th of August and run until the 4th of September.
The festival was first organized in 1961 and since then it has become an established annual event creating an atmosphere of merrymaking and fun, where visitors from every part of Cyprus come to enjoy and celebrate.
It is worth mentioning that the Wine Festival is an event which can be regarded as a revival of the ancient ritual of worship in honor of Dionysus, the god of vine and wine, and of Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty and love.
The event is held at the grounds of the municipal gardens in Limassol and always attracts thousands of locals and tourists. Major wineries including regional ones will be participating in the Festival, offering visitors a wide variety of wines.
Besides, stands with traditional food, delicacies and souvenirs will also be available to guests.
The Wine Festival has a great selection of entertainment to offer for all ages such as traditional dances, concerts, theatre performances, storytelling, shows with magicians etc.
Interestingly, this year, apart from Greek and English, the Festival`s program is circulated in the Russian language as well.
Taking into account a significant increase in the number of tourists visiting Cyprus this summer, the Municipality of Limassol expects more visitors at the Wine Festival.
The opening will start on the 25th of August by Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, followed by a cultural program including Cypriot traditional dances and songs.
