The tourist season 2016 appears to be shaping up into a record breaking year if the announcements of new airlines opening and the new routes and special offers on air travel are to be believed. In the past few days Tus Airways, a new Cypriot airline, has announced that it will commenced operations on February 14th 2016. The company aims to connect Cyprus with its near neighbours including both Tel Aviv and Haifa airports in Israel, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan. Flights to Crete will also commence in March this year with Rhodes being added to the schedule at the end of the year. The timing of flights from Larnaca to Haifa will be timetabled to allow the business traveller to depart in the morning and return to Cyprus in the evening. Tickets will be very reasonably priced with a single ticket from Haifa to Larnaca being offered for €39 inclusive of taxes whilst flights from Tel Aviv will be from €69 one way. This will also be of interest to tourists from Cyprus who may wish to visit the holy sites in Israel, and include it as a side trip to their main holiday. With increasing cooperation between Israel and Cyprus in connection with trade and the off-shore gas finds, plus the increase in tourist arrivals from the region, this route is likely to prove highly popular and much needed.
In addition Helvetic Airways will operate a new route from Bern in Switzerland to Cyprus, in cooperation with Hotelplan Suisse, and will include holiday packages. This new service will start up in May 2016. Meanwhile Blue Air, the Romanian airline that established a base in Cyprus a year ago, has announced that it will be offering flights to Luton Airport in the United Kingdom three times weekly from April 2016. The company which flies to Athens and Thessalonica from Cyprus recently offered discounted tickets for students who regularly travel between Cyprus and Greece. The Emirates airline has launched a new Dubai-Larnaca-Athens service and has tempting promotional fares on offer, whilst the new Cyprus based airline, Cobalt Air, launching in spring 2016, has ambitions for both long and short haul flights from a Cyprus hub. With so many new possibilities opening up, tourism looks like it will flourish like never before and will probably entice more people to invest in second homes or buy to rent opportunities on the island.
