In Cyprus there have always been some places that were difficult for tourists to get to, either by car, or by mountain bike. Now these difficulties are easily surmountable, because of a new helicopter service. The service costs 630 Euros per person to rent a helicopter for visiting the Akamas Peninsula, or Kykkos Monastery for a whole day.
The price also includes the delivery of tourists to a beautiful secluded beach, equipped with sun beds, umbrellas and even towels. A variety of cold drinks, beer, white wine, sandwiches and fruit are available on board the helicopter as well.
According to one of the three founders of this new service for Cyprus tourism, Mr. Ioannis Sivitanides, the main difficulty is to obtain the permission of the Civil Aviation Department for the implementation of these commercial flights. So far, the company has received approval for their existence and activities only as an aero-sports club, trading as Skyriders. That`s why the clients have also to pay a club membership fee of 75 Euros per person. Despite the high prices of the new service, the company presently only covers their operating costs. However, when all necessary permits are acquired, the business can be expected to be more profitable. This means that Cyprus will be able to compete with Malta, Spain, Greece and Turkey, where such services are already being provided.
