The cordial, historical and cultural links between Russia and Cyprus will be celebrated for the tenth successive year on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June 2015, as the anticipated crowds converge on the annual Russian Cyprus Festival. The venue is the Lemesos (Limassol) Municipal Gardens. The start time is 15.00 hours on both days, with the Saturday programme of events ending in a firework display. After the official closing ceremony on Sunday evening, festivities will continue on until late at night with a final performance by on the main stage by a popular Russian group, In between there will be an action packed programme that has something on offer for everyone.
As many as 15,000 people are expected to attend from both the Russian and Cypriot communities as well as members of the other ex-patriot communities to be found in Cyprus and tourists, who will find plenty to interest and entertain them in the non-stop eight hour programme. The programme includes a hundreds of singers, dancers, acrobats and actors from both countries performing on three stages to the high standard that has become customary at this event.
The festival will also incorporate many child friendly activities including the opportunity to take part in a Robotics Academy and receive instruction on how to programme robots. This shows the strength and cohesion of the Russian community living in Cyprus where many have now obtained Cypriot nationality and where they are able to educate their children in Russian and international schools and enjoy the many Russian stores. A large community of Russians now live in Cyprus with the majority choosing to live in Limassol. As honorary benefactors of the Cyprus Russian Festival, The Dashin’s Foundation will host a variety of fundraising events at the festival in support of various local charities. The couple, Andrey and Julia Dashin set up the charity in 2014 with the aim of “lending a helping hand” to local charities. As an example of their philanthropic work, a sum of 6000 euros was donated to the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society in February of this year.
